Controlled and hazardous
How is regulated waste handled?
Controlled substance waste follows the DEA's disposal rules and is destroyed with DEA- and EPA‑approved methods. Hazardous waste pharmaceuticals are identified under RCRA and managed under EPA's Subpart P, which bans sewering them.
Controlled substance waste
Handled in line with DEA regulations for registrants and disposal (21 CFR 1301 and 1317), with separate inventories and the documentation to match.
Hazardous waste determination
Pharmaceuticals are classified under RCRA (40 CFR 261 and 262) and managed under EPA's standards for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals (40 CFR 266 Subpart P).
No sewering
EPA prohibits sewering hazardous waste pharmaceuticals (40 CFR 266.505). Nothing needs to go down the drain: every stream gets a compliant route to destruction.
Segregation at the source
Clear separation by category at your site, supported by scan‑to‑sort, so each stream reaches the right destruction method.
Chain of custody
How does disposal work?
It travels under U.S. Department of Transportation requirements to compliant destruction, and every step is documented, so you have the records your audits ask for.
